Perpetual weekend

New bag

I still haven’t shaken that weekendy feeling I posted about yesterday.  Frankly, I don’t have a problem with that, but some of the side-effects are a bit problematic.  For instance, on a weekend, I have a tendency to let my email pile up, I don’t generally process orders, and I certainly don’t ship anything.  You can see how spending Monday and Tuesday in “weekend mode” could be bad for business…  I think I have to let tomorrow be Wednesday.  At least, until I get the next batch of orders out the door.  Then I can go back to my week of Saturdays 😀

Last night, while watching old sitcoms on some channel I never knew existed before, I cut out the fabric pieces for six new  bags, including the two I mentioned being ready to start yesterday.  I stitched the first one together tonight after supper, sewed the button on while sitting outside on the patio, and then, because of the lingering Summer daylight, I was actually able to photograph it.  Nice not to have to wait until tomorrow for that – I tend to lament the lousy lighting indoors and overlook the possibility of shooting outside.  Anyway, I really like this bag.  That Amy Butler lacework pattern is one of my favorites.

New bag

I’m also still impressed by how nicely the button coordinates.  I’m glad to have been able to put off a big button-making session for a while.  I’m not sure what it is, but I’m having a little trouble shifting between my crafty modes.  All of my creative pursuits utilize the dining room table, so in order to do one thing, I have to clean up the others.  The sewing machine and ironing board have the table right now, and I don’t feel any pull to put them away and set up my tile and pasta machine.  I’m starting to feel very seasonal in my creating.  Summer is looking very much like a sewing season, and if you go through and look at my Winter blogging, it was dominated by polymer clay.  I suppose it is a good thing that it has worked out this way – cooler weather is better for claying, both in terms of oven usage, and clay workability.  And summer is certainly better weather for skirt making and wearing!

Muffin tin madness

On a completely different note, I just wanted to mention Muffin Tin Monday.  Yes, I do realize it isn’t Monday (although we’ve already established that I might very easily be persuaded that today is Saturday…)  Katy of Sycamore Stirrings posted this idea earlier this month and it struck me as a real problem-solver around here.  We’ve got picky eaters (one more picky than the other), and frankly I have difficulty knowing how to feed them.  This method gives me an opportunity to make sure they get a little bit of fruit, a few veggies, a few of their favorite things, and maybe some of what Neil and I are having.  I’m finding they are more accepting of trying something new when it’s just one of six items, the other five of which are things they know and like.  They also think eating out of a muffin tin is just cool – Eamonn has asked me for one every night since I started this.  This idea has certainly been a hit around here.

On tap for tomorrow?  Making at least one more bag, maybe a farmers market trip, and most importantly, getting a batch of shipments out the door.  And then it’s back to weekend mode 😀

  1. I love the muffin tin idea! Two of my kids are picky eaters and this idea might make things a bit easier. Thanks!

    1. No problem! Just passing along someone else’s genius 🙂

  2. […] I am really loving the Muffin Tin Monday idea. I see the genius in it for kids, but also on an adult level too. I think I might try it on Sam, we’ll see how weird a look he gives me the first time! (via) […]

  3. Love the muffin tin idea! I will definitely be trying that today! Farmers Market Every Wednesday in New Providence. Check it out.

NEW PROVIDENCENew Providence Farmer’s Market, 1-6 p.m. Wednesdays, through Oct. 29, New Providence Borough Hall, Municipal Building Parking Lot, corner of Academy Street and Elkwood Avenue. (908) 665-1400.

    1. I went to that market last week, actually. It was really small, but that’s probably due to how early it is in the season. I hope I have a chance to check it out again today!

Tomorrow the one in Madison opens – I really loved that one last year. It’s in the parking lot at Madison High School, if you’re interested.

  4. I love your attitude! And your bags are just great!

    1. Thanks (on both counts)! And now that I’ve had a brief blog-comment-reading break, I suppose I have to go back to doing Wednesday things for a while more 😀

  5. Sounds good to me too!

  6. wow that bag is stunning – it looks totally different color-wise than the picture of the fabric on your previous post – too cool!

    1. Yeah, it is a bit darker in the previous post. I had better lighting last night 🙂

  7. Your bags continue to be fabulous! I keep thinking about making some. One of these days. The muffin cup idea is genius. It would have been a blast with my kids when they were little. Now, I’m sure they’d give me that raised eyebrow look and wonder why I was getting even weirder than normal. lol

    1. Heh, well, I’m actually looking forward to the day when my kids are old enough to realize that I’m weird – then I can really milk the weirdness and have a little harmless fun at their expense 😀

  8. The muffin tin idea is fabulous! I had read about it in a Dr. Sears book for toddlers but never thought about trying it with my older girls – duh! Thank you!

  9. added you to the muffin tin mama list – sorry i spaced it.

I just got Bend the Rules from the library. sooo excited to look through it.
