The sound of chainsaws in the morning

Downed tree

I think I’m over my pity party regarding my van.  Thank you for attending icon_wink-flickr-2-10.  Now I’m just struck by the immenseness of all this.

Downed tree

That’s a whole lotta tree.  It’s awfully cool in a “destructive force of nature that thankfully hurt no one” kind of way.

Downed tree

Look at the size of that tree trunk!  We could make a coffee table out of a slice of that.  (Too bad I’m the only one who thought that was a neat idea.)

Downed tree

We’re thinking of leaving the remaining spike there as a warning to the other trees.  We’ve already had two tree removal companies drive by and leave us written estimates.  Plenty of gawkers have stopped, too.

Debris removal

Friendly neighbors wielding chainsaws and axes came over this morning and helped us clear the driveway.  And when I say “us” I mean “Neil.”

Cookies

I decided I could be of the most help in the kitchen.  Making cookies.  (What?!  You don’t expect me to get my delicate artist hands dirty with menial labor do you? icon_wink-flickr-2-10)

I meant to share the cookies and a nice hot drink with our helpful neighbors, but they left before I could offer.  Helpful neighbors, if you’re reading this, drop by any time for that drink.  You may have to hurry, though, if you want a cookie.  They don’t last long around here…

  1. Wow! glad the only thing injured was your car…poor van!

I had the same idea about a coffee table a few years ago when my parents had a tree taken out…no one was really keen on getting me a slice either.

I will just have a tree trunk table in my pretend house! 🙂

    (those cookies look great too!!!)

    1. Ooh, I want a pretend house, too! I know just how I’d decorate it. I’d fill it with all of the colors and artsy/vintage things that my husband gags at 😀

  2. I saw borrow one of those chain saws and make yourself a table gf! Wear gloves so you don’t muss them delicate artiste hands though 😀

    1. Uh, I don’t do power tools. I still haven’t worked up the nerve to turn on my dremel 😉

      1. say WHAT??? come on gf…the dremel can bite 🙂

  3. Ugh – so sorry. We have had many a windstorm around here, and as our trees are 75 to 100 feet tall it can get pretty darned scary. I’ve had to have 6 trees removed since we’ve lived here – we have firewood to spare!

The good news is this is the kind of thing they made comprehensive insurance for!

    1. Our homeowners insurance won’t cover removal of the tree unless it damaged one of the insured structures on the property. Since it didn’t hit the house or garage, we’re out of luck. At least our auto insurance will cover the damage to the van. After a deductible, of course…

  4. Hey I think your pity party was totally justified! I’m glad no one was hurt, and I can totally sympathize about your car–I get attached to them, too. I hope things get back to normal for you soon–it sounds like you had a rough week….

  5. Pity parties are fun sometimes! Well, not fun, but needed.
