Drama out the window

Excitement across the street

About an hour ago, fire trucks started arriving and parking across the street. At last count, there were three trucks (from two different towns), a handful of police cars, a few ambulances, miscellaneous official town government cars including an “emergency management” vehicle, and a whole lot of men in uniforms wandering around the yard.

Excitement across the street

Just as I’m wondering what on earth is going on over there, the phone rings. It’s the neighbor who lives in that house, calling me to let me know a box of polymer clay books with my name on it was accidentally delivered to her. “Hmmm,” I thought, “that’s nice of you to let me know that, but don’t you currently have a circus of emergency personnel in your yard?” Then, as if reading my mind, she casually mentioned that the fire department was there due to a chemical explosion in her basement. Oh?
I’m guessing nothing actually exploded yet, because I didn’t hear a thing, I haven’t seen smoke, and there doesn’t appear to be any smothering of flames going on. Perhaps everyone is there for preventative measures? I really haven’t the slightest idea. What I do know is that I don’t plan to go get that box until the coast is absolutely clear. Not even a box of Judy Belcher books is worth getting myself blown-up over. I love everything Judy’s ever done, but I love breathing even more. I hope I don’t get kicked out of the Sisterhood of Polymer Clay Devotees for saying such a thing, but there it is.

The glow of the tacky Santa

Remember my post about Tacky Santa? I think he’s growing on me. Look what he did to the living room at 4:00 yesterday afternoon. Such a lovely red glow… It’s cozy! I lit a few candles, and turned off all of the lights to enjoy it at it’s full effect.

Those trucks aren’t going anywhere any time soon. I wonder what kind of chemicals she has in her basement.

  1. Holy crap that’s a lot of action across the street! Yeah for sure it would be nice to know what sort of chemicals she keeps in her basement. Oy!!
I had to giggle out loud about you not risking your life even for Judy Belcher books. That’s funny stuff. I have no doubt they are good enough to at least give it a second thought but….yes breathing would have to win out. Besides, Judy seems like a cool layed back sort of gal…I’m sure she wouldn’t kick you out of the club b/c of it. 🙂

    1. Heh, yeah, and there’s always the fact that I could order more, if need be. Took me longer than it should have to realize that fact. Duh.

  2. you mean to tell me you hid inside and didn’t go play lookie loo? *THAT* will get you kicked out of the EMS junkie club in a heart beat!

Lets hope the “chemicals” weren’t a box of mis-delivered polymer clay 🙂

I think Judy would probably be right beside you watching from the safety of the house. no worries on being booted out of the sisterhood 🙂

BTW>>>I really like tacky santa head. the effect he gives is sweet!

    1. Oh, we went outside at first – all of the pictures I took were from my front steps – but it was cold out there. Those trucks stuck around for nearly 3 hours. My 7-year-old was bummed that he missed all of the action. They left 15 minutes before he got home from school.

  3. Chemical explosion? OMG! Just wanted to pop in to say hello and to say that I really love the Tacky Santa! I think he’s great! Very retro. Your living room looks so cozy, too.

Haven’t posted on my blog since I got back from Europe. Maybe in January I ‘ll pick it back up again. In any case, I’ll see you here and around the Refuge.

My tree is up and my two ornaments you made are in places of honor, as always. You are such a talented woman!

    1. So glad you’re enjoying my ornaments still 🙂 You should seemy tree, LOL! I’ve had to stop putting up some of my handmade ornaments because there’s just not enough room anymore! I pretty much just put up the ones I specifically made for us as a family, and one or two of my favorite general ones.

We haven’t put this year’s tree up yet, but hopefully this weekend!

  4. I love Tacky Santa!! I think it makes your living room so warm and inviting…the glow it makes, that is 🙂

I’m nosy….I think I would HAVE to go have a peek at whats going on ever there.

    1. I did *start* to walk over there to get the books at one point, but I got as far as the driveway, saw how many firemen were wandering around the place and decided maybe it wasn’t the safest scene for me and my 4-year-old 😉

  5. Those dang crystal meth labs are popping up all over the place.

    There goes the neighborhood.

    1. Haha, you know, I have to say that thought did cross my mind. More than likely it was battery acid or something, but that’s really not nearly as interesting.

  6. I LOVE tacky Santa!! So fun!! So, umm… whatever was that explosion about anyway??

    1. I think my FIL will be pleased to hear how many people love his tacky Santa 🙂

Whatever the explosion was, it wasn’t that big. And once the trucks drove away, I heard nothing more. Beats me, what it was!

  8. […] weekend also, Tacky Santa is going in the window. One of his red light bulbs burned out last year, and we haven’t […]
