Distracted

I’ve tried to start this post 5 times, but I can’t seem to form a coherent sentence. I know I shouldn’t be trying to write in front of the tv, but who thought that Between the Lions could be such a distraction? So far today I’ve learned about the letter H, the three little pigs, and the “op” sound. I just can’t block it out. Darn catchy tunes. I’ll learn to read yet, despite myself.

I really just popped in here today to say two things.

NewFirst, I’m thrilled with the response so far to the color scheme contest! I know I have a few hundred readers – I see the numbers every day – but I’m still surprised when you start coming out of the woodwork to post a little something. It makes your presence here that much more real to me. And all of your complements warm my heart – thank you!

Secondly, the current Polka Dot Creations Color Challenge will be ending TODAY, Monday. I want to be able to pick some finalists tomorrow. Check out this month’s entries so far. Aren’t they great?  I’m really drawn to this clay-covered vessel by Naama Zamir.

And now back to some more fascinating PBS Kids programming. Jakers! is on, and I have to brush up on my knowledge of growing up as a farm animal in 1950’s Ireland.

LET’S KEEP IN TOUCH!

Sign up for occasional Polka Dot Cottage news and get a coupon for 10% off your next order!

Don't worry, we won't bother you more than once or twice a month!

  1. Jakers is one of the cutest cartoons ever. And I watch (and enjoy) a lot of cartoons. 🙂

    1. You know, I never liked cartoons as a kid, but I really enjoy watching some of the sweeter things my boys have been into. It used to be Blue’s Clues for some time, but right now the big favorite is Curious George. I love that little monkey.

  2. Heh, we call Jake “Jakers’ sometimes, but now I think he should be wearing overalls when we do that…(and just try to find overalls that fit Jake, ay yi yi…).

I’ll admit to some occasional epiphanies about math while Nell was watching Cyberchase. But there’s really nothing to be gained from overhearing Higglytown Heroes. Believe me.

    1. Heh. I’m really glad we never got cable tv. Sure, there are some real stinkers on PBS (like Caillou – oh, the whining!) but it saves us from having to deal with many of the less desirable children’s shows. Not to mention commercials! And the kids still think that there are only two channels for them to watch – PBS out of New York and PBS out of New Jersey. It rarely occurs to them to check the other channels.

I’m pretty sure I got a pair of overalls for Aidan relatively recently at Lands End – they have some bigger sizes 🙂

      1. Oh, it’s not that there aren’t bigger sizes–it’s that Jake’s an odd combination of length and circumference and gravity–anything with straps doesn’t “hang” if you don’t stand up, see.

        1. Oh yeah,I had forgotten about that – when the boys weren’t standing yet I was always having to fix their straps. I’d have probably skipped overalls altogether with them, except that they were both so roly poly that pants with elastic dug into them, and that was worse.

  3. I am going to order the Polymer Clay for the First Time book, thanks for suggesting it.
I happen to know that santa is bringing me a sewing machine, now I need a sewing for dummies book – any suggestions there?

    Thanks!

    1. Yes! It depends on what you want to make, of course, but I am so thrilled with the two books I started with: Simple Sewing and Sew What! Skirts. I go into some detail about these books here. Hope that helps! And watch out. You are about to become addicted to making things 😉
