Donna Kato Class

Having a great time. Wish you were here. Today we learned to construct Japanese inro pendants, and to decorate them with image transfers, stamps, pigment inks and the ever-important gold leaf. This is my pendant in-progress. It still needs the domed top to be added, and it could use some sanding/buffing. I’m impressed with how this is coming along, given my lack of experience with these techniques.

Donna Kato Class

I worked on a second box using my canes from the Country color scheme during the times when the main box was baking. This, too, is a work in progress, but I don’t think it’s as impressive as the first inro.

Funny Faces

I bought one of Donna’s pendants – I love it! It’s got my favorite green in the world, and it’s got polka dots. What more can a girl ask for? (My son the ham, must get into every picture and make a weird face.)

This class has been great – I love the pace, and I love how, with Donna’s instructions, I can do something completely new to me and it will feel like second nature – as if I’ve been doing it forever.

After-class, the family and I walked next door from our hotel to Chili’s for supper. The rest of the evening involved, drinking tea & hot chocolate with the boys in the hotel lobby while Neil got a little break, and all four of us playing a rousing game of Rummikub before tucking in the boys and kissing their sweet little faces goodnight.

If this is a post card, I must be writing really tiny

  1. How lovely, Lisa!!! What fun you must be having…..I am envious…maybe even your favorite color of green.
Love the heart you bought from Donna but love the mug shot best. Your little guy is too cute!!!!

    1. It really was great. And thanks – I love that little mug myself 😉

  2. those inro’s look great Lisa. I can’t wait to see them all finished up. Dang, Donna’s pendant looks like she made it special for you….your colors, your polka dots. is kismet 😀 As for the muggle in your shot….looks like you BOTH like to ham it up for the camera 😀

    1. Thanks! I’m really happy with them. I took some pictures of the finished ones, but the glare on them is a bit distracting. I don’t know what I’m going to do when the cold weather comes and I can’t wear tank tops anymore – they’re the best necklines for showing off pendants! And as for the little guy, I think he brings out the ham in me 😉

  3. Classes with good instructors are great. It’s nice that Neil and the boys actually wanted to come with you. For me, conventions and classes have always been a chance to get away from everything. That’s good, because my hubby and kids would spend way too much time telling me how bored they were if they came along. Since I’m the social director, they’re lost without me.

You will be bringing those to the next njpcg meeting, right?

    1. Normally, I’m right there with you – my class weekends are getaways as much as they are learning experiences. But I was afraid I might not want to be alone this particular weekend, so they came along. It went well, but I don’t imagine Neil is going to sign on for another weekend like this anytime soon 😉

And you bet – I’ll bring all of the goodies I made to the next meeting!

  4. Your pendants look great so far! I really like the postcard one. I also love your new heart-shaped pendant. So pretty! (super cute picture too!)

    1. Thanks! I like that one, too – it’s so different than my usual stuff. I’m going to try to incorporate more of that look into what I do, I think.

  5. Very pretty pendant and your son is adorable.

    1. Thanks for dropping by – I love the pendant, too, and I may be biased, but I agree about the boy as well 😉

  6. […] Have hot chocolate (like we did when they came to Philadelphia with me for the Donna Kato class in September) […]
