Think he likes it?

This morning Neil suggested that I check out some garage sales for interesting things to sew or dye. Sounded like a good idea to me, so off I went. I only hit 5 sales and didn’t have any luck finding anything of interest until the last place. There on the ground, in a little ziplock bag I struck paydirt: 6 little Ultraman figures for 25 cents. Ultraman figures are not readily available in the US – you usually have to order them from Japan. Son #1 has cobbled together a small collection of figures, but it’s rare to get a chance to add to them. Well, naturally, I forked over a shiny quarter and brought my treasure home without stopping at any more sales. I think finding these for him was more fun than any smelly old fabric I might have encountered.

Speaking of fabric, I completed the next sewing project on my list: a full-length apron. Actually, it’s a lot longer than I expected. I thought it would end at my knees. I may still shorten it – I haven’t decided yet. I love the cheery fabric! It makes me want to sit on the wraparound porch with a tall glass of lemonade. I don’t actually have either one of those things (the porch or the lemonade), but I may wear it to bake some cookies later

I am really having fun making these aprons. For the longest time I have wanted to be able to make garments of some kind that I could coordinate with my polymer clay jewelry, beads, or buttons. Not knowing how to sew, knit, or crochet made that a difficult thing to achieve. I don’t ever see myself sewing anything complicated – this apron almost got me frustrated with some of the little touches it required, and it was marked “easy”! If I ever make this pattern again, it will be with some modifications that will make construction simpler. I really do feel like the best part of all this right now is getting to pick out pretty fabric and then play with clay to match the colors and make coordinating accessories.

Ok, now here’s a little techie tip for those of you still reading blogs the old fashioned way: Wouldn’t it be easier to have one place where you could look every day to see what is new in all of your favorite blogs, instead of having to go to each site one by one and check them out? I know I have mentioned rss feeds before in different venues, but I thought you might like this “plain english” explanation that illustrates the point very simply: http://www.commoncraft.com/rss_plain_english

Son #2 just came in here with a harmonica – oh my head!

  1. What a great apron!! I love the fabric and I love the length, I don’t think I would shorten it 🙂

  2. Thanks! I had it on all evening, and the length is growing on me.
