Busy, busy, busy!

It’s shaping up to be a busy week in Polka Dot Creations land… For one thing, Christi Friesen’s new Welcome to the Jungle book arrived yesterday. I got halfway through processing the preorders I had on file for it when THUD! Another box lands on the front step – Emma Ralph’s Get Creative With Polymer Clay book! As it turns out about half of the people who’d ordered Welcome had also ordered Get Creative, so I had to re-process those orders to combine shipping costs. Plus I had to finish processing all of the rest of the preorders for both books.

So now, here I sit, with 4 times the normal number of midweek orders queued up and ready to be packed (and it’s only Wednesday! I usually do my second packing job of the week on Thursday!) I think I’ll be doing an extra night of packing tonight. I’m a little concerned that this is going to get completely out of control very soon, as I recently placed restocking orders and they should start trickling in at any time… in the next week or two, I’ll also have to ship out backorders of My Favorite Things in Clay, and preorders of the new Sophie Necklace DVD, among other back/pre-orders.

Hey, I love this job, but the worst part of it, hands-down, is the packing and shipping part. I almost always end up doing it at night after the kids are in bed. At that point of the day, I’d much rather be kicking back on the couch with a Dr. Pepper in one hand and a bag of something salty in the other, being entertained by something lighthearted on tv.

Shipping headaches aside, it’s a pretty exciting time to be a polymer clay enthusiast right now. There is a new book (The Art of Jewelry: Polymer Clay) coming sometime this month that has gotten a lot of people all worked-up (in a good way, LOL!) plus the new arrivals I mentioned above. I’m already in a major “clay mood” this month and I have a feeling that it is going to take a conscious effort on my part to drag myself away from the clay books, the new DVD, and my “studio” (aka the dining room table) and go enjoy the summer weather! Luckily I have a couple of energetic little boys to make sure I don’t get too lost in Clayland!

Happy Claying!
Lisa

P.S. Is anybody else hearing Guns N Roses every time they read the title of Christi Friesen’s new book?? Can’t get that darn song out of my head!! LOL!
