I’m still here, really.

Pen Set #1

Please tell me it hasn’t been an entire week since my last post. Oh, how neglected you all must feel. I guess it was just one of those weeks. Usually when I’m busy during the week, I at least have the weekend to spend getting caught up around here, but not this time. It was [...]

Some for me, some for you?

Polymer clay covered crochet hooks

Before Christmas I showed you how I went down a crazy path, and made a whole set of coordinating crochet hook handles for myself.  What I never told you was that I tried to use one of the hooks a few hours later, and it was terrible. I’ve heard people say that they are fiercely [...]

For your gift-giving pleasure…

hook1101

Last week nearly kicked my butt. I was minding my own business, working on your custom claythings (crochet hooks, pens, and shawl pins, if you remember), when we had a bit of a medical mystery unfold with my older son. I’ll spare you most of the details.  Suffice it to say, there was a call [...]

Custom-made crochet hooks, anyone?

22 hooks 07

Yesterday was the day I’d been waiting for: no appointments, no other work that couldn’t be postponed… So I dove into hook-handle-making. By the afternoon, I had made enough hook handles to determine my best practice for future orders.  By evening, I had sanded and buffed the daylights out of all of the handles I [...]

Have you been to the Polka Dot Cottage shop lately?  No?  Well, neither has anybody else, myself included.  I’m not feeling it anymore.  The why’s of it are complicated, but I think it boils down to one fact more than others: I don’t make enough time to work with polymer anymore. THE BACK STORY The [...]

In the last four years, my work has evolved to include other materials, and even other techniques in the polymer itself. I don’t think the layout of the shop has worked for some time, and I am ready to do something about it.

Summer Studio

More pendants in progress

Still experimenting with photographic pendants, in this installment of Summer Studio, come see the bits and pieces on my clay table, along with some of the other creative things I’ve got going on.

Activity, conflictedness, and a grand opening

Image transfers. Oh! how I love the look of them, when they work. My track record with this technique is less than spectacular, and it has me considering showcasing my photographs in resin instead of clay. Conflicted thoughts abound!

Opinions to weigh. maybe.

Summer Studio Sneak Peek

Sneak peek

I’ve been working on a little something.  It spent a lot of time just living in my head, turning around, being mulled over, re-inventing itself, until I finally took action this week.  It’s not entirely finished yet, but here’s a little sneak peek: I’ve got some research and refining to do, but once I’m ready, [...]
