Blog banner history

Merry Christmas 2008!  New stocking ornament as the front image, and back to the beach in the second image (I  missed it for the last two banners).

This image features the last of my set of four first quilts.  It makes me feel cozy, which is something I hope the blog does for people.  Hence, it seemed the perfect symbol.

First day of fall, 2008. The napkin basket in the kitchen was switched over from Summer linens to Fall ones. I still really liked the zinnia picture I had up, so rather than remove it altogether, I let it have the spot in the back. I had been using the same ‘flying a kite on the beach’ photo there since introducing this blog design.

September 2008.  Buying zinnias from a roadside stand is one of my favorite last summer / early autumn activities.  This year the boys and I went and picked some at a local farm, and I loved this picture I shot of them there.

New blog banner

This banner was introduced in mid-August 2008, when I decided I would rather update my images based on interesting things I wanted to showcase, as opposed to what month it was.  This is a handbag I made with fabric I designed.

August 2008 blog banner

The first August 2008 banner. It features a photo of a lily that I took at my parents’ house.

July 2008 blog banner

The first banner for the new blog design, July 2008. In in effort to tie new blog to old, I used the same bowl of buttons as I had going on the old blog.

July 2008 blog header

The last banner for the old blog design, July 2008. It features a favorite bowl of buttons I made, which got a lot of attention at the time.

May 2008 moo card

May 2008 saw a banner featuring my basket of cloth napkins. Apparently I didn’t save a copy of this banner, but I did have an image of a moo card I made from it. In use, the text would have been the same as that of the banner above and below this, and it would have been the same size as them, as well.

April 2008 blog header

April 2008 features an image that I staged to show my two crafty interests side-by-side. I did also re-shoot this a few days later on a white background to lighten it up. I liked that version much better, but it seems to also be lost for good.

April 2008 blog header

This April 2008 banner marked a change from a static banner to a photographic one that I could change seasonally or at whim. This first one featured an image of my son playing with play-dough that we’d made together, but it was short-lived. I decided I preferred to use an image that was more representative of the content of the blog. I kind of regret that now - I think this was a cute picture.

June 2007 blog header

The first banner for the old blog design, June 2007. It was part of a site-wide redesign, where all of the sections had their own similar banner, featuring one of my cane designs as a background, and four images that represented the section. It was in place for approximately 10 months.

Previous to this, my blog was hosted at LiveJournal under the name Dancing the Polymer Polka, and I can’t, unfortunately, find a copy of the banner I used to use there, but it looked something like this. At least, it did in April 2007. This is actually a moo card, based on the book store header at the time, but it was very similar to what I used for that blog (which was essentially all polymer clay all the time).

Before making the graphic header, I just used the default background from the LJ theme I chose. I wasn’t using the blog enough to really care all that much. That was September 2005, when I first dipped my toe into blogging waters.
