Polka Dot Cottage: I need to step up my game

I need to step up my game

Posted August 31st, 2012 by

For so many years our family room kind of languished in beige-land, but now that we’ve finally started paying more attention to decorating it, I’m noticing something: the Clarkesworld propaganda is multiplying.

Sure, Neil, go ahead and put up a couple of posters, I said.

Little did I know at the time, Vistaprint was being a major enabler behind my back. Anyone who has ever placed an order with Vistaprint knows that the following weeks and months will bring a deluge of free and half-price offers to your email that no self-respecting swag junkie can ignore.

So these last few weeks, Neil has been getting incredible deals on small banners, posters, and lawn signs, and my family room is looking more and more like a travel agency, specializing in Clarkesworld vacation packages.

Well, as much as I am enjoying the humor of his new posters, I think I need to step up my game around here. My voice in this room will not be squeezed out! More throw pillows! More bunting! More crochet table toppers!

And once that’s taken care of? One giant Polka Dot Cottage logo banner, stretched from one side of the room to the other. That’ll show Clarkesworld who’s boss around here.

Although we probably won’t really be even until I win two Hugo awards.

Darn.

That’s going to be hard to arrange ;-)

P.S. Neil is up for a third Hugo this weekend, this time in a different category: Best Editor Short Form. I hope he gets it. It might make up for his mean wife making him stay home from World Con this year.

P.P.S. Most of these posters aren’t really meant to stay here – I have been assured that they are actually intended for the Clarkesworld tables at upcoming conventions. It’s so cute the way he thinks I’m ever going to let him go to another one again. Heh.
