Home!

Neil was released yesterday, and (for a nice change of pace) he is still here 🙂 No middle-0f-the-night emergencies this time, thank goodness.

He had cards to read, and a box full of fun get-well presents (including this pinwheel) to open.

And I, as has been my custom for the last few weeks, had copious amounts of pictures to take.

I think he’s had enough of my picture taking 🙂

Next on our agenda? He’s going to shave and I’m going to get back to the sheet swap. Or, I might clean. My mother-in-law came over yesterday morning to help me clean up before Neil got home, and I kind of feel like I’m on a roll with that now. It happens so rarely, I should really go with it!

P.S. I’ve been to the supermarket, and I’ve been checking food labels – holy cow! is there a lot of salt in stuff, or what? Cutting down on sodium around here is not going to be easy. I’ve got a whole post written in my head on that topic.

P.P.S. Thanks for all of your prayers and positive thoughts recently. They have been so appreciated!

  1. Trying to eat low sodium is really really difficult!! Watch canned beans and veggies especially. I make all of my beans from dried now, really easy just takes a little planning ahead. So glad to see your hubby home…he looks well, so happy for you all!

    1. Thank you! We don’t eat many canned things, so that won’t be too much of a problem, but I am having a hard time getting around the salt content of supposedly healthy things like whole wheat wraps!

  2. What are your shopping options beyond the supermarket–Trader Joes, Whole Foods, Sprouts, etc? We sometimes have better luck finding low-salt items in those places (but not better prices, I’m afraid).

    1. I do try to avoid the supermarket as much as possible, but Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are both a 25 minute drive, and it involves a lot of planning ahead on my part. I’m gearing up to a big Whole Foods trip as soon as I can work up the desire to spend an entire morning driving, reading labels, and lugging groceries. Ugh.

  3. Welcome home, Neil!! You’re looking pretty good for a guy who just had the Widow Maker and a huge kidney stone :). Keep getting better!

  4. Congratulations on being home, Neil. How wonderful. I have been checking daily to see how he was doing. We too have cut back on salt. Soda has a lot of sodium. We have cut out most processed foods (and eat gluten-free/dairy-free due to food allergies. Mrs. Dash seasoning has some very good salt-free spice blends. I also use dried beans, instead of canned. I also started canning my own tomatoes and that has made a big difference.

    1. We have been cutting back on soda all summer, luckily, and when I do buy it, I try to get the “healthier” brands. I just checked the Hansen’s soda we have here, and no sodium! Thanks for the Mrs. Dash tip.

  5. So glad he’s home! Yep, eating right is work, our world is full of not so good foods.

  6. we are doing restricted sodium here too. we totally cut out anything in the way of canned veggies and either go fresh or frozen (those that can have some salt in them too) We are using Mrs Dash’s products for seasoning and totally love it. don’t miss the salt at all. You can also make homemade bread without using the salt the recipe calls for. Pizza crust is good that way too. I no longer add salt to make my water for pasta boil faster. don’t miss it.

I am so glad Neil is home with the family. I am sure that is a mondo big load off your shoulders my friend. Hugs

    1. Yes, I do feel quite a sense of relief!

I like to make my own bread, so that should be no problem, leaving out the salt. That makes two Mrs. Dash recommendations – will have to check it out!
