I seem to have created a small monster. Remember the Monkees hats I made? I posted about them and included the pattern and information about the yarn & needles I used, in the hopes that anyone who wanted one could make it for themselves.
Well, lately the hats seem to be grabbing the attention of many non-knitters, and I have been getting requests for commissions.
I don’t want to take on these projects. I am a slow knitter, and any knitting I do is in the evening during my leisure time. I knit to relax, and I want the projects I choose to be of interest to me at that moment. Hats like these can take me a week of evenings, and I’m not willing to part with that time anymore.
That said, an experienced knitter could probably knock one of these hats out in a couple of hours – it’s 11 inches of 1×1 rib in the round, topped off with a pom-pom. Easy-peasy.
If you are interested in making a Monkees hat or two for a reader who would like one, can you let me know? I’d like to have the email addresses of a small handful of interested knitters, so that when I get these requests, I can put you in touch with each other. What you charge for yarn and your services will be completely up to you, and something you can work out with the customer before you begin the project.
I’ve made the pattern free and clear for anyone to use in any capacity, so if you want to start an Etsy shop that sells nothing but Monkees hats, I won’t stop you. In fact, please give me the URL of the shop so I can pass it along to my readers!
I currently have three people who would like hats. If you want to make one (or all) of them, let me know and I will tell you how to get in contact with them.
Thanks, knitting friends
