Not swallowed up

I promise my messy kitchen didn’t swallow me up.  I spent enough time in there on Saturday to get half the job done and to help Flufy film part two of his apple pie series: the crust.  I still have the table to do, and there’s a section of countertop on the left that you can’t really see in the photo, but trust me, it’s scary.

That’s going to be a big job.  At least, it will be a big job if I actually sort through every scrap of paper.  I could just dump it all in a storage box and plop it in the basement for five years, until I’m sure nothing in it would ever be requested by the IRS…

That’s actually sounding like an attractive option at this point.

I cleaned up the living room last night, because I bought a lovely bouquet of flowers at Trader Joe’s.  I don’t know about you, but a vase of flowers perched precariously atop a cluttered coffee table really doesn’t do it for me.  To fully enjoy the flora, the room itself has to be well taken-care-of.  Aware, as I am, that I feel this way, I have been known to buy myself flowers specifically for the purpose of forcing myself to straighten up a room.

Cleaning is just one big mind game with me 😉

Now to figure out how to entice myself to finish what I started in the kitchen…

  1. Great post Lisa, you got a chuckle out of me! I am running into some serious clutter issues with my studio. A box labeled miscellaneous and put into storage sounds like an excellent plan. So does a small controlled fire! My insurance company would probably prefer I bought flowers instead though and just cleaned up the mess so the flowers didn’t look out of place! 🙂

    1. Heh. “a small controlled fire” – I like that one.

  2. How is it that those pesky kitchen tables seem to be magnets for ‘stuff’ lol.

    1. I don’t know, stuff on kitchen tables multiplies faster than bunnies. It’s crazy.

  3. Oh my! I’m so glad I’m not all alone. I was so ashamed of my bins full of miscellaneous papers in the basement- the ones that I vow to go through when I get a chance, but they just sit there for ages. 😉

    1. I think there is a box in my basement for every family party we have had – that mad dash the day before when you know you are just not going to have time to go through it all before guests arrive… The way things are going, I’ll have another box down there shortly before Christmas 😉 Glad to be in good company!

  4. I love that you used the flowers as a motivator. It’s ironic that I read this today in fact because I’m also trying to get the house clean and am using blogs as a motivator/reward. And yup, reading this blog post of yours was one of my ‘rewards’ today. Thanks for sharing!! Now I want to go get some flowers too!

    1. Cool 🙂 Normally, I wouldn’t recommend using me as any shining example of house cleanliness, but in this particular case, you got lucky! You should totally get some flowers.
