Polka Dot Cottage: Dipping into the gift card stash

Dipping into the gift card stash

New books

It was Tuesday night.  Aidan had been coughing and feverish for a day or so, and Eamonn was nestling in to me on the couch in a way that could only say “I’m coming down with it, too.”  Truth be told, I was feeling somewhat sluggish myself, and so I did what any sane person on the brink of illness would do – I went shopping!

Online shopping, anyway.  I have a nice little gift card stash (or maybe I should say had one…) and I used it to pluck a few books & cds from my wish list and to order one brand new book.

Self Portrait Thursday

So here it is two days later, and Aidan is acting like himself again, although a low-grade fever lingers.  Eamonn and I are still dealing with temps around 101, and Neil has come down with it as well.  Oh, yes, it’s a fun, germy place here at the Clarke house.  As I typed that last sentence, one person coughed, one person sneezed, and another stirred from his quilted cocoon on the couch long enough to ask what game his brother was playing and then roll back over into his nest.

I’m starting to think it’s our lot in life to spend a week of March or April holed up together in Germy Town.  It has happened every year in recent memory.  Blech.

The difference this time is that I’ve got goodies coming in the mail :-)   The first box arrived today and it contained two books:  Last-Minute Knitted Gifts and Sew What! Bags.  I didn’t even know that last book existed, but if it’s anything like Sew What! Skirts, I’m going to get a lot of mileage out of it.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have my own little cocoon to curl up into with my new books.  Or maybe I’ll just take a nap.  The books will keep.
